HIGH SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL"High School Confidential," a new video produced by Peace Arch Community Services' (PACS) Addiction Services Program provides a unique glimpse into the world of peer pressure, parties and alcohol and drug use in high school. "This is a drug and alcohol education/prevention video with a difference," says Kevin Letourneau, Program Manager of PACS Counselling Programs. "Viewers will hear from youth who made the choice to use drugs and alcohol and then found themselves forever changed. These young people speak candidly about what happened and where it took them. Other youth talk about what they like to do to have fun and what matters to them. They stay involved in school activities and recreational pursuits and have their eye on their future. These resilient youth who choose not to use, speak up about the value of healthy stress management, staying active and pursuing a passion," Letourneau added. The goal of "High School Confidential" is to reduce substance misuse among youth and to improve their overall health through exploration of effective ways of managing stress instead of trying to "cope with dope" and how youth can get a rush of excitement using activities instead of substances. High School Confidential faces the fact that alcohol and drugs are readily available in most high schools. Youth discuss a number of substances including tobacco, marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine and crystal meth. Risks associated with going to parties and drinking are highlighted. An evaluation survey comes with each video.
