The Pass/Fail Rate for Nursing School

EducationGeneral Nursing Info

Educating competent nurses has become more challenging in recent years given the decrease in budgets for schools and a shortage of qualified professors. To compound the problem, a shortage of nurses exists as the baby boomers begin to age. To succeed in a nursing school in this environment, students must be diligent in their studies. Although failure rates in nursing schools are increasing, the path to success is possible.

To succeed in nursing school, a student must first be committed to attending as many classes as possible. Course attendance is directly related to how well a student will perform on exams. Just showing up to class is not enough, though. A student must practice active listening in class by completing the assigned reading before class, taking thorough notes, and participating in discussion. Being punctual for clinical shows professionalism and prepares you to put into practice what was learned in class. Passing the NCLEX-RN requires hard work and persistent studying throughout your courses. Whether you pass or fail nursing school is more dependent on how much work you are willing to put into your courses and clinical.

Unfortunately, the rate of failure can be related to financial situations or because the students were not adequately prepared for college level courses. Nursing school requires a strong level of skill in mathematics, reading, and writing. Oftentimes public schools across the nation do not provide a great education in these areas. College level courses are difficult to pass if the student does not have strong educational background. Along with this, many students do not have adequate financial aid. To compensate for the lack of monetary funds, students must take loans and begin working in some cases full-time. Juggling school and work is difficult, and more often than not, grades suffer the consequences. There is simply not enough time in each day to be both a full time student and employee.

Many nursing students start out as certified nursing assistants. Having this background knowledge and experience may help increase the chances of passing nursing school. There are many CNA classes in Chicago available to those interested in a medical/nursing career.

Given the rising concerns over the shortage of nurses, the increasing failure rate in nursing schools has become a serious problem. Faculty and students must work together to ensure success in nursing school. For more on the nursing profession, see these Nursing FAQ as published by Rush University Medical Center of Chicago, IL.

The Internet has made it possible for millions of adults to resume their education online or even train for a brand new career online. The popularity of online classes has extended its reach globally. Clearly, online learning is a great alternative to learning in the classroom. However, it is important to use due diligence, when selecting a reputable source for online learning. This is especially true concerning finding reputable CNA classes online.

Finding Reputable CNA Classes Online

Check accreditation. At a regular brick and mortar school, you would probably visit the campus and check out the atmosphere. Question the representatives at the school and base your decision on the information that you’ve gathered. However, investigating online classes is a bit different. The first step is to determine if the online school is accredited. Accredited schools are approved by the governing bodies of the state. Accreditation demonstrates that the courses taught prepare the student adequately to work in the profession. The fact is that many facilities will not hire a candidate that did not attend an accredited school.

Read the reviews about the online CNA school. Usually, it is easy to find a number of reviews about the school selected. The reviews are written by former students that attended the school. Read about the student’s opinion on their training. Determine if they were satisfied with the training they received at the school. Were the instructors knowledgeable and helpful? Did the courses prepare them to handle the career?

How many of the students actually graduate from the online school? Some of the online schools might have a high drop out rate. This might be due to dissatisfaction or difficulty learning. Also ask for statistics on the number of recent graduates that found employment.

Gather together all those findings to determine the most reputable CNA classes online. Remember to avoid any online school that is not accredited or does not share vital statistics about their program or success rate among students. You can find CNA classes here, as it is one of the most reputable sources for online CNA classes.

The Life of a Maternity Ward Nurse

Types of Nursing

One of the most rewarding jobs might be that of a maternity ward nurse. This is a person who has the privilege of seeing new life brought into the world. There really is no typical day in this career as each day on the floor has the possibility of bringing new challenges while seeing miracles happen in the lives of families.

As soon as the nurse walks onto the floor, there is something to do with mothers or babies. All of the paperwork is examined first to determine how many mothers are on the floor and if there is anyone in active labor. If there is a mother in labor, then the nurse would get an update in order to assist as the previous nurse ends a shift. It’s important for maternity nurses to try to build a bond with mothers and other members of the family as this is a person who will see a woman during one of the most private times of her life.

The nurse might process the paperwork for a mother who needs to be admitted. Some mothers are only in a room for a day or two after delivery while there are some mothers who need to spend weeks on the maternity floor so that the baby is as healthy as possible when it’s delivered. There are some situations where the nurse needs to show sympathy as some babies pass away after birth. Nurses help to calm mothers who might be fearful of pain during delivery. Fetal monitors are placed when a mother is admitted to a room, and contractions are monitored. The nurse will alert the doctor as soon as there are changes. IVs are placed, and there is often an examination performed to see how far the mother has dilated.

After the baby is born, nurses make sure the baby is doing well before taking it to the nursery or giving the baby to the mother. Care after a C-section for the mother includes changing the dressing on the incision and making sure there are no signs of infection. If the birth was vaginal, then the nurse will monitor the mother for swelling or excessive bleeding in the perineum area. The job of a maternity nurse is never done as there is always something to do to brighten the day of a new life.
